Truro businesses gear up for St Piran's Day celebrations
BUSINESSES in Truro will be 'dressing up' as part of the city's St Piran's Day celebrations.
The festivities between March 3 and 8 are being organised by Truro City Council and the Truro Old Cornwall Society, with shops and other businesses being encouraged to join the window-dressing competition.
Local councillor and event organiser Bert Biscoe said: "Whether it's with the Cornish flag, St Piran's Cross, or simply black and white, it would be wonderful for businesses to be a part of this community event again.
"If you would like to go one step further with your window display – and, after all, it is a competition – then we're suggesting the theme of Tristan and Yseult.
"This great Cornish legend, which has ingrained itself into cultures worldwide, is a tale of pursuit, love, conflict and eventual reconciliation – originally set among Moresk, Malpas and the River Fal."
A series of activities will be held throughout the week, including the annual street parade.
Cornish flags and bunting can be obtained from Truro Pannier Market, the Royal Cornwall Museum and Truro Tourist Information Centre.
