One of Cornwall's great Christmas traditions took place yesterday when Redruth provided its annual splendid Christmas choral concert in the Methodist Church. There were outstanding performances from the Four Lanes Male Voice Choir, Camborne Ladies Choir and Redruth Methodist Choir with the work of Thomas Merritt, Cornwall's greatest composer of carols featuring strongly.
The Chairman for the evening, Mr Greg Cock must surely be in line for the award as the Cornishman with the most dry sense of humour ever, with the congregation thoroughly enjoying every tale or joke.
There were truly outstanding piano and organ performances by 14 year-old Angus Webster, who recently became the youngest person ever to play the organ at the Royal Albert Hall .
The Federation of Cornish Male Voice Choirs presented long service awards to three members of the Choirs who had each served for 40 years as members, a remarkable achievement.
This annual festive celebration is always held on the second Sunday in December in Redruth Methodist Church.
