Survey on Cornish identity
"In the wake of the recent news that Cornish people have officially been given minority status in the UK, Dr Pete Woodcock, a lecturer at the University of Huddersfield, has launched an online survey on Cornish identity.
I am writing to appeal for readers’ help in completing an academic study on Cornish Identity. I am a University lecturer in politics based at the University of Huddersfield, but born in Cornwall, who is interested in ‘Cornishness’ and how some contemporary political developments have impacted on people’s Cornish identity.
I would like to find out if the classification of the Cornish as an ‘official’ national minority makes people more likely to define themselves as Cornish, or if it makes no difference at all. Additionally, I would like to discover if people are more likely to support devolution for Cornwall should Scotland decide to leave the UK in their referendum in September, or whether people think the issues are unrelated.
To gauge this, I have set up a questionnaire which can be completed online and should take no more than ten minutes to complete. If readers could spare the time to complete this, it would be fantastic.
