"The broadcaster Kernowpods is asking on social networking site 'Twitter' if it’s now time for Cornwall to revert back to its original name of Kernow and calls upon the Ordnance Survey to place Kernow on the map – literally!
The name Kernow is the Cornish language place name for Cornwall that can be seen not only in areas across the Duchy, but is now growing among the business community as it understands the advantages of having a distinctive product image – used to great effect by The Kernow Sausage Company .
Malcolm Bell, head of tourism, understands the benefits of having our distinct identity that is wonderful and something unique. The ‘Kernow’ place name will certainly be a positive addition to that ‘uniqueness’ and further the added attraction.
‘Kernow’ would also give us a distinctive place name that will not be confused with anywhere else and would also serve to promote the Kernewek/Cornish unique cultural identity now officially protected by our inclusion into the FCNM.
It is hoped that the Ordnance Survey will take a positive view on the issue and put ‘Kernow’ on the map. It would mean so much to Cornish identity, distinctiveness and the FCNM agreement.
To further highlight the issue, Twitter users can use the hashtag: #KernowOnMap"
