The Grass Valley Male Voice Choir will sing in SacSings!, the biggest choral event that the Sacramento area has seen.
Twenty choruses are performing in 8 concerts with nearly 1,000 singers. The groups range in size from ensembles of ten to twenty-five to choruses of a hundred singers. Each program of five groups will be a mixture of musical styles, from classical to modern and traditional to barbershop.

Grass Valley Male Voice Choir is a group of male singers in the Sierra Foothills of California. They gather to share their love of music in the spirit of the Grass Valley Cornish gold miners of long ago. They sing a wide range of popular music - from Broadway, Americana, and folk music to traditional Cornish and Holiday favorites.
The Grass Valley Male Voice Choir is the direct descendant of the Cornish miners’ choirs that flourished from the Gold Rush era well into the twentieth century. Grass Valley in Nevada County, California, was the center of hard rock gold mining. Cornish miners came to Grass Valley, where their mining skills were needed to extract gold from the earth. They stayed and put down permanent roots in the community.
Their love of singing led to an all male voice choir that sang in Grass Valley for over 90 years. The choir was heard at Christmastime in national radio broadcasts in the 1940s and 1950s, one of which was recorded deep in a gold mine.
The group was revived in 1997 by founder Eleanor Kinitzer. The Male Voice Choir has been an active and beloved part of the Nevada County musical scene from that time. They have remained close to our Cornish roots by touring and singing in Cornwall in 2000 and 2002. They have also participated in annual Cornish reunions in America, and hosted a visiting Cornish choir in Grass Valley in 2009.
The modern choir has singers from all walks of life who's purpose is to create the opportunity for men to come together in fellowship and song; to learn new music and visit old favorites for the purpose of entertaining our community with rich and unique sound from an all male voice choir; and to provide assistance to local charitable organizations by performing benefit concerts.
They sing a broad repertoire that encompasses Broadway, folk music, and a wide variety of Christmas music. Among the many great choral groups in Nevada County, the rich, deep sound of a male voice choir is unique and thrilling.
In addition to regular concerts, they appear before numerous groups – at ceremonial occasions, holiday parties, and senior residences. Their hallmark is the support of local nonprofits by sharing their concert proceeds with community groups.
