Flora Dance to be broadcast live on the internet
One of the most famous festivals in Cornwall - and arguably the whole country - will this year be streamed live on the internet for the first time.
Helston Flora Day, featuring the iconic dance through the streets of the pretty West Cornwall town, will be broadcast online in a move which it is hoped will allow people from all over the world to enjoy the event.
Wendy Radford-Gaby, managing director of software development company Negys and a member of Helston Business Improvement Partnership, will accomplish the feat after buying two special cameras.
These will be positioned to capture Flora Day preparations in Coinagehall Street on Wednesday May 7 and all the excitement of the day itself on Thursday May 8.
She said: “Our offices on the second and third floors halfway down the street provide a bird’s eye view of what will be going on so the cameras will be mounted on the building’s parapet – one pointing up the hill and the other down.
“They are waterproof and also have sound so, as well as seeing the images, people will be able to hear what is going on and enjoy the atmosphere.”
Shirley Moralee, development officer for the Helston Business Improvement District, said it was a “brilliant idea,” adding: “Flora Day is a very special occasion that attracts thousands of visitors each year.”
The live streaming will be available on the www.visithelston.co.uk website
