Monday, January 13, 2014 - May 23, 2014
Geevor Tin Mine
A photographic record of Cornish mining will be exhibited in the Hard Rock Gallery, Geevor Tin Mine from Monday January 13th until Friday 23rd May 2014. It is FREE with site admission. Geevor is open 9am—4pm November to March then 9am—5pm from March –November.
John Peck was commissioned by Wheal Jane Mine to take a series of photographs for an exhibition. He then went on to be the official mine photographer up until the mine closed in 1992. John also recorded working life at South Crofty Mine during this time. Conditions were wet, humid and very noisy. John found the work challenging but also exciting. He had the opportunity to record a snap shot in time of one of Cornwall’s primary industries and the people who worked in it.
This exhibition gives a fascinating insight into Cornish mining and Geevor is very pleased to work with John to show visitors some of these superb photographs. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to see this exhibition set in one of the key centres for the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site.
