From the Falmouth Packet:
Local Food, Global Stage' theme for 2014 Porthleven Food and Music Festival
The theme has been announced for this year’s Porthleven Food and Music Festival.
The event will take place on April 26 until the title Local Food, Global Stage, designed to celebrate world food's influence on Cornish cuisine as well as how local food has been revered and enjoyed on a global stage.
Festival chairman David Turnbull said: “This year Cornish specialities and traditional British favourites will sit alongside the exotic tastes and smells of street food from around the world – all to the backdrop of an eclectic mix of music and entertainment.”
The 2014 festival theme will pay homage to the Cornish forefathers who travelled to far off places to make their way in the world.
Hannabeth Johnson, festival coordinator, said: “There is a famous old saying that goes, ‘At the bottom of every hole in the world you’ll find a Cornishman.’ “The Cornish not only took with them their mining and fishing expertise but they also took their culture and culinary expertise. The pasty is now eaten all over the world and in Mexico it has proved so popular they now hold an annual pasty festival.
“Make a date in your 2014 diary to come and celebrate the best food from near and far and enjoy an eclectic mix of music from talented local musicians and music that takes its influence from across the water.”
The free annual spring festival is now in its sixth year. Last year a staggering 18,000 people visited during the main festival day. To take part this year visit porthlevenfoodfestival.com or contact Hannabeth Johnson on 07813 536146.
