From The Cornishman:
THE annual Humphry Davy Lecture will take place on his birthday - December 17 – at The Exchange Gallery, Penzance.
Organised in the past by local Rotarians, this year the event has been taken on by the Humphry Davy Project group which hopes to set up a centre honouring Penzance’s most famous son in the former Peasgoods store, the premises where he trained to become an apothecary surgeon more than 200 years ago.
This year Professor Frances Wall, director of Camborne School of Mines, will be the guest speaker, talking on ‘Mind The Rocks’.
Penelope Young, from the Humphry Davy Project, said: “We have moved the date of the lecture to his birthday because at some stage in the future we would like to instigate a Humphry Davy Day, in the same way that there are Murdoch and Trevithick days in Redruth and Camborne.”
Entry to the lecture, at 6pm at The Exchange, is free with festive refreshments included; donations welcome.
