From Cornwall Council:
Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) application - successful
In May 2013 we received the good news that our Round 1 funding application for the Kresen Kernow project (submitted November 2012) was successful! We are delighted that the project has been selected as one of only six to receive HLF funding at this level this year and would like to thank everyone who has helped us in getting the project to this stage.
The grant announcement follows a visit to Redruth in March when HLF Trustees and officers saw the site and heard how the new archive centre will bring together the collections of Cornwall Record Office, the Cornish Studies Library and the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Historic Environment Record, creating the largest body of material for the study of Cornish archaeology, landscape, history, culture and identity in the world. The project will provide bigger and better storage areas, increase the standards of collections care and allow improved access to them. The new centre will conserve historic brewery buildings in Redruth and include new exhibition spaces, a learning studio for schools and community groups and bespoke preservation and digitisation facilities.
The initial award of £386 800 will be used to develop the scheme over the next 15 months with the aim of securing second round funding of over £9m in 2015. During this 'development' phase we will work with existing and potential users, partners, staff, volunteers, the local community and others to develop ideas for building a vibrant centre for learning and leisure. We want to ensure that the heritage at the heart of this project is accessible to local, national and international audiences so we will also be developing a programme of online and Cornwall-wide community based activities and events.
