Bewnans Kernow writes to Lord Berkeley re Duchy of Cornwall (Private Estate) Bill: 'Parliament is being misled'
Bewnans Kernow, the Partnership of Cornish Cultural Organisations, has written to Lord Berkeley expressing 'regret and opposition' to the publication of his Duchy of Cornwall (Private Estate) Bill (HL) - 'an ill-thought-out, constitutionally questionable and potentially undemocratic abuse of Parliamentary procedure'.

Andrew George MP, attending a meeting of Bewnans Kernow partner organisations has similarly voiced concern, saying "Lord Berkeley is taking it upon himself, with very little justification or connection to Cornwall and without consultation or any elected representation. He presumes he knows best how the relationship between Cornwall and the Duchy should be resolved. Lord Berkeley seems to have made a decision on behalf of everyone including democratically elected representatives that the Duchy must now narrow its remit and lose the potential benefits of the unique Duchy status and also the important public responsibilities as a Crown Body."
